Introducing the Highland Roots Research Service
Highland Roots Research was
started in the late 1980s by Cambridge-educated historian Graeme Mackenzie whose
own Highland roots encompass (amongst others) Murrays & Mansons in
Caithness, MacKenzies & Morrisons in Easter Ross, Frasers & MacTavishes
in Stratherrick (Inverness-shire), and Mackintoshes, MacDonalds, MacGregors
& MacMillans in Glen Urquhart - where his family maintained a home before
settling in Inverness. Though continuing to work out of the
Highland capital, and thus to specialise in the history of
the Highland clans, Graeme's connections in Edinburgh (his father's birthplace)
- where most of the
nation's genealogical records are collected - allows him also to offer
research into families from other parts of Scotland.

As Chairman of the Highland Family History Society, and Seanachaidh (historian & genealogist) for Clans MacKenzie and MacMillan, Graeme's services are much in demand, so he only takes on a limited number of commissions at any one time. He's always happy however to give advice and share his knowledge and experience - which is the main purpose of the Highlandroots.org website. If you can't find the answer to a question about your Highland roots on the site, or you're thinking about commissioning a search for your ancestors but are not sure if you've found the right details with which to get going - see Information Required to Start a Search - you can contact us by clicking the link below (please remember however that giving advice also takes time, so there's a limit to the amount that can be offered freely to any one correspondent). Personal consultations with Graeme can be arranged in Inverness or Edinburgh; please email or ring him on 0790-176-4329.
When it comes to actual research Highland Roots offers a service which is designed to ensure the client always remains in control of the costs however simple or complicated the case may be, while at the same time always receiving personal attention. Details and current costs will be supplied on application.
